🎬 How to Write Effective Prompts for Veo 3: A Practical Guide with an Example

We’ve worked closely with our creator community to figure out how to write effective and engaging prompts for Veo 3. After reviewing their experiences and conducting our own tests, we created this guide to help you start generating cinematic, vivid, and expressive videos right away.
🔧 Planning Your Prompt
A great prompt doesn’t start with words — it starts with clarity. What do you want to see, feel, and hear? To avoid missing key details, break your idea into the following categories:
Scene Description: What’s happening, who’s involved, and the overall mood of the scene.
Visual Style: Cinematic, realistic, animated, stylized, neon, surreal, etc.
Camera Movement: How the camera behaves — slow zoom, static shot, tracking, drone shot, etc.
Main Subject: The central focus — who or what the viewer should be drawn to.
Background / Environment: Where the scene takes place — a street, forest, space, underwater, etc.
Lighting & Mood: Daylight, soft shadows, harsh contrast? Joy, tension, solitude?
Audio (optional): Music, ambient sounds, or general atmosphere.
Color Palette: Warm tones, cold hues, black & white, vibrant neon, pastel, etc.
Dialogue / Background Sounds (optional): Who says what, or what ambient noises are present.
Subtitles & Language: Should subtitles be on? What language is used? Language can influence cultural visuals like signage, architecture, and clothing.
đź’ˇ Additional Tips
Using quotation marks (" "), brackets () or [] for dialogue may trigger automatic subtitle generation — avoid these if you don’t want subtitles.
Write in natural, conversational language.
The longer and more precise your prompt is, the better the output.
Use the structure above to ensure you don’t forget any essential detail.
🧠How to Structure Your Prompt
Once your plan is ready, turn it into a single coherent description. You can write it manually, or use Jadve AI to convert your notes into a finished prompt.
📌 Example: Stranded Stormtroopers at Sunset
📝 Prompt Plan:
Scene Description: A photorealistic selfie-style video, filmed handheld on a quiet, rocky plateau at dusk. A stormtrooper, fully suited with his helmet on, stands in front of a landed Imperial shuttle — its ramp still open. Wind whistles softly in the background.
Visual Style: Photorealistic, handheld selfie style
Camera Movement: The camera points at the stormtrooper filming himself, then turns to show Greg.
Main Subject: The stormtrooper, followed by Greg, who’s nervously pacing and kicking rocks.
Background / Setting: A quiet rocky plateau during twilight, with the Imperial shuttle in the background.
Lighting & Mood: Soft sunset light, calm and slightly melancholic.
Audio: Wind blowing, voices of the stormtrooper and Greg, natural ambient sounds.
Dialogue:
Stormtrooper: “So... we can’t leave. Because Greg lost the shuttle keys.”
Greg: “I didn’t lose them, I just... Oh let ask Jadve AI where they can be.”
Stormtrooper: sighs “Great. We’re stranded on Space Wales.”
Text & Subtitles: No on-screen text or subtitles should appear in the video.
âś… Final Prompt:
A photorealistic selfie-style video frame, filmed handheld on a quiet, rocky plateau at dusk. The stormtrooper, fully suited with his helmet on, stands in front of a landed Imperial shuttle—its ramp still open. Wind whistles softly in the background. He points the camera at himself, exasperated. “So... we can’t leave. Because Greg lost the shuttle keys.” He turns the camera to show Greg, pacing in circles, kicking rocks. “I didn’t lose them, I just... Oh let ask Jadve AI where they can be.” The stormtrooper sighs. “Great. We’re stranded on Space Wales.”
